Choqaloo, is that you?

Hello, dear reader! I’ve been very busy since my last post. I ran my last prep to a successful conclusion, I ran on session online using FoundryVTT, and I decided to host my TTRPG blog locally. I’m going to give a short explainer on that last one and tease some of the upcoming blog topics. No matter where my blog is, you can find me on Mastodon @[email protected]

Why switch from cloud hosting?

In my “about the blog” page, I mentioned that I pay a small fee for control of a VM in a datacenter. Well, that fee is increasing. I was already running some services on a home server–so, I figured a VM running WordPress wouldn’t add much load to the ol’ system.

As I said in the about page, “If I want to change which hosting service I use, I download all my data, upload it to a new WordPress server, and redirect the DNS.” And it really was just that easy. I spun up a virtual machine, set up WordPress, migrated my data over, and redirected the DNS.

Why change the name?

Choqaloo. It’s my nickname. It’s a whole vibe. I love it. However, this is a TTRPG blog. There’s not any connection there. On the other hand, Gray Ooze is a perfect name for the TTRPG blog of someone named Gray. Someone like me.

I’ll keep the redirect from Choqaloo.com going for a while, but I’ll probably repurpose that domain for something else eventually.

So, what’s upcoming? I ran my Monster of the Week adventure across two sessions and learned a lot about adventure pacing. I ran ShadowDark for a group of people online using the Foundry Virtual Tabletop–both systems totally new to me. And I’m preparing to run a Blades in the Dark campaign. All of which I will share here. In the meantime, find me over on Mastodon @[email protected]
